Email to Airtel about Incorrect Bill for April 2011
Airtel sent me a bill for Rs. 2520.21 which has an unnecessary charge for Rs. 1077. I sent them an email about this, a copy of which is printed below.
Hello,
I’m an Airtel Mobile Customer from Mumbai with the mobile no. 9967699959 registered in the name of Preshit Deorukhkar.
About an hour ago, I’ve received my e-bill for the period of March 23rd, 2011 to Apr 22nd, 2011 in my inbox.
First of all, there was no PDF attached to the email. I had to log in to your website to view the details of the bill. Secondly, I was surprised to learn that the amount due was Rs. 2520.31, which is twice what I am usually billed for. Upon inspecting the bill, I noticed that there is a charge for Rs. 1077.30 for ‘Mobile Internet - Volume’ under Value Added Services.
Now, I’m on a data plan that is Unlimited GPRS usage@Rs. 199 which is also charged in the email. I gave a call to your customer helpline and happened to speak Mr. Junaid and Mr. Prashant (Interaction ID: 856549419) and was told that I should email you to sort this issue out.
I received an SMS from “AMairtel3G” — first on March 18th, 2011 which said, “airtel 3G is here. Enjoy fast internet at 3G speeds on your current data plan. Limited period offer. For 3G speeds, select dual network mode on your handset.” A screenshot of this text from you is attached for your perusal (Also uploaded here: http://pre.sh/6Ee6 ).
Now, Mr. Prashant tells me that because this 3G was activated for my account, my previous data plan was discontinued and I was charged for whatever data I used after that. Now,
1. I never requested the activation of any 3G service for my account. It was offered to me.
2. The SMS said “on your current data plan”, so I don’t see why I’m being charged more than Rs. 1999 and why my original plan was discontinued in the first place.
I received an SMS a few days later that said, “Hope you enjoyed airtel internet on 3G at superfast speeds. Your 3G offer closes today. To continue enjoying 3G speeds or to opt out, SMS 3g to 121.” I gave a call to your helpline and asked that I’d want to just continue with my normal Rs. 199 data plan since I didn’t want to use 3G any more. I spoke to Mr. Shadab (Interaction ID: 35395101).
I hope you look into this overcharge issue as soon as possible and send me an updated bill without the Rs. 1077.40 charge for VAS so that I can make a payment for it.
Thank you.
Best,
Preshit Deorukhkar
