OS X Developer
Over the course of the next few months, I’m going to try and transition myself from a random guy from India to a random guy from India who knows iPhone and Mac Development.
Of course, that’s not what I’m choosing as a career, since I’m aspiring to become a VFX Specialist. However, coming from a very technical and IT background and being a Mac and iPhone user for the last few years, learning their app development was the next logical choice. And I’m not just doing this because of that reason, but also because Mac and iPhone development is something that really interests me. (Also because I suck at graphic designing.)
That said, being in India has its own set of disadvantages. Unlike in the US or other major countries, Apple isn’t omni-present. It’s only a select few geeks that know about the awesomeness of Apple and actually own some Mac product. All you see Windows on almost every piece of computer sold in this country and as a result, you’ll find plenty of C# or ASP.NET classes at every corner of the country, but none that teach you Objective-C. Neither are there any BigNerdRanch’es or Stanfords around.
So self-study is the only available option to me. Referring books and practicing in the only choice I can make. And so, over the next few months, I will be studying the following books:
- Learning Objective-C on a Mac.
- Cocoa Programming on Mac OS X by Aaron Hillegaas.
- Beginning iPhone 3 Development: Exploring the iPhone SDK.
Hopefully, I’ll be able to manage all this while I spend 5-hours a day learning VFX and being tortured by Adobe After Effects etc. (Luckily, I know bit of Motion and the new FCS 3 pack is fantastic)
